How to Use a Variety of Puppets

Greater Houston Puppetry Guild members will showcase all types of puppets and demonstrate how to use them. Bring your puppets to share in the fun! Educators earn 1 clock hour CPE credit.
August 9, Sunday, 2:00 PM
Presenter: John Grimmett, Artist and Educator. www.johngrimmett.com – Topics include: Making the familiar unfamiliar (ideas and concept), How to talk about fire (action), Organic intrusiveness (conflict), The heard vs. the seen experience (dialogue and economy), Beginnings and Endings and Middles (structure), On reading plays, inspiration, and stealing. Educators earn 1 clock hour CPE credit.

Everyone Has a Seat at the Table
September 19, Saturday, 1:00 PM
Presenter: Pat Miller – All students will see themselves when you use puppets with world folktales. Three tales from multiple cultures will be performed. Handout includes patterns, bibliography and instructions for puppets and an inexpensive, portable puppet stage. Pat Miller taught with puppets throughout her 37-year career as a classroom teacher and school librarian, grades PK-5. She has presented numerous puppetry workshops and included puppetry lessons in her 20 professional books for educators. Tale of Peter Rabbit – Make-and-Take Workshop

Presenter: Joanne Schroeder – Make a glove puppet with 4 bunnies and Mr. McGregor. Joanne will demonstrate each step and present the completed puppet performance. This is a Make and Take Workshop.
